More about the GDST

The Belvedere Academy

EAL

At Belvedere, we pride ourselves in supporting students from all backgrounds. We are aware that students who do not speak English as a first language face additional barriers when accessing the curriculum, lesson materials, and additional opportunities. It is of the utmost importance to us that our EAL students feel supported and welcomed within our school community.

Our EAL Co-Ordinator, Miss Wood, along with our student Languages Ambassadors, act as champions for all EAL students. Here you will find resources for EAL students and their families to use at home to aid them in their development of the English language, alongside information about our Languages Ambassador programme and the work that they are doing to create an EAL community at Belvedere.

Reading Practice for EASL Students: https://worldstories.org.uk/

Meet our Languages Ambassadors: Lilia T, Sarah S, Karima G, Natalia A and Julia M, who specialise in Farsi, Kurdish, Portuguese, and Polish.

Support For EAL Students

Our Languages Ambassadors will be running a reading enrichment for EAL students on a Wednesday from 3-4 in G75. Our Languages Ambassadors are kind, approachable, and eager to help all EAL students across The Academy. If you feel that your child could benefit from practicing reading, writing, or spoken English, then please contact our EAL Co-Ordinator, Miss Wood, to arrange for them to attend. e.wood@belvedereacademy.net
